Sharing the joy

One of my favorite things about all things gardening is how when you get some gardeners together we LOVE to share ideas, victories, and failures! There really isn’t any gatekeeping in the gardening world that I’ve ever encountered! Even first year gardeners can have big successes while seasoned vets have epic failures. I can think of no better example than tomatoes this year -one friend is a first time tomato grower and has managed to grow a 2 pounder, while a veteran market gardener friend has ripped out nearly every tomato plant in his field! We could always argue it’s much easier to care for a couple of tomatoes than an entire field, but I think the principal remains the same - ya just never really know with gardening and therefore no one gets to be an “authority” in gardening.

That’s what makes teaching and sharing so much fun. Last night I hosted a seed-saving class at the flower farm, showing folks different flower seeds and how to collect them. In the spring I’ll do another seed-starting class and we’ll host another seed swap too. Watching people succeed, whether it’s a big tomato, a bouquet of flowers, or just hearing “Oh! I didn’t know that” is incredibly rewarding.

I’ve got more ideas for 2026 to reach more gardeners, flower farmers to be, and just folks that want to come out and learn some behind the scenes about the farm and all of the plants we grow.
